Written back in 2003 about the military boarding school in New York where I was teaching.
RULES FOR NYMA TEACHERS TO ENFORCE:
1. Students may have no more than $20.00 while on school grounds, nor should they carry credit cards.
2. Teachers are not to give their keys to students to open classroom doors. That’s what students’ credit cards are for.
3. Students may not sleep in class. Their ensuing vigorous activity at night keeps the TACs awake.
4. Students may not ride in a teacher’s car. They should sit on the hood.
5. All cell phones and other electronic equipment will be confiscated and driven by NYMA bus to Nuevo Laredo to be sold at a 400% mark-up.
6. Any fire set throughout the year, whether on campus or off, will result in the immediate suspension of a random teacher.
7. Smoking is prohibited on school grounds. This is not only NYMA policy, but also a state law. Enforce it!
8. If you must smoke, please do so in the smoking lounge.
9. Teachers should accept no gifts from students. Pass all gifts on to the administrators.
10. Teachers, be prepared for out-of-state parking to commence in September of 2004.
